(July 28, 2008)—Rodney Morris, Jr., 21, a local hip hop artist who performed under the name of Lonestar, and his 18-year-old girlfriend, Samatha Chaffey, have died in a head-on collision in Williamson County.
According to a press release, the two were driving back to Killeen Friday night from Schlitterbahn when their 2001 Mitsubishi crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound Dodge van on Highway 195 near Florence.
Morris, who recorded for Killeen’s FEDTYME Records, was taken to Scott & White Hospital in Temple where he was pronounced dead early Saturday morning.
Chafey was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Austin American Statesman reported that the three men riding in the van survived the accident, but said the driver, Daniel Joe, 19, of Midlothian, suffered incapacitating injuries.
All of the accident victims were wearing seatbelts, the newspaper reported.
Funeral services were pending Monday.
