(August 13, 2008)--A memorial service for Issac Hayes will be held Monday afternoon at a church in Cordova, Tenn.
Hayes’ family has released a statement about the passing of the soul legend, who won both a Grammy and Oscar for his "Theme From Shaft" that notes that while Hayes was "an iconic figure" to music fans, to family members he was a "husband, father and friend."
The statement added the family will "miss his love, wisdom, humor and the familiar comfort of his voice."
Hayes was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
He recently finished work on the movie "Soul Men," in which he played himself.
Also starring in the movie was Bernie Mac, who died on Saturday, one day before Hayes did.
