Canton Councilman Thinks Colbert Is A Sucker Save Email Print

A | A | A

(August 16, 2008)—Some residents of the latest town called Canton targeted by TV comedian Stephen Colbert aren't happy about the attention.

In fact, a city councilman in Canton, Texas, thinks Colbert is a sucker.

Councilman John Fuller says if Colbert heads for Canton, about 55 miles southeast of Dallas, the elected official will "mash his nose."

Fuller spoke with the Tyler Morning Telegraph about the ongoing gag on the Comedy Central show "The Colbert Report."

Colbert has been taking pot shots at a variety of towns named Canton.

It started after he referred to a Georgia town as "the crappy Canton."

Colbert then focused on Canton, Kan., and then Canton, S.D.

Canton, Texas, population of about 5,100, has invited Colbert to the town's famed monthly flea market called "First Monday Trade Days."

Colbert should be really afraid. That big bad man is going to "mash his nose". Good grief. Get a grip you ninny. You should be grateful someone is paying your squatty little "flea" ridden town any attention at all.

Lucky Canton Texas! You should take advantage of this national spotlight turned on your town and use it to the town's advantage! What free publicity! Turn any negative connotation into Positive with your wonderful Texas hospitality! It can be done! Seize the moment! You cannot buy this type of publicity! Turn it into a wonderful opportunity! Good Luck, Cantonites!
