(September 10, 2008)—Kenney Chesney leads the pack of nominees for this year’s Country Music Association Awards.
He received seven nominations, including entertainer of the year, an award that he has won the past two years.
Also nominated in that category are George Strait, Brad Paisley, Sugarland and Keith
Urban.
Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles trails Chesney with six nominations; five for Sugarland and a solo nod for her songwriting on "Stay."
George Strait received five nominations and now has 75 career CMA nods, trailing only Alan Jackson, who has 79 with this year's four nominations.
Brad Paisley also received four nominations.
Carrie Underwood is going for a three-peat in the female vocalist of the year category.
After winning in 2006 and 2007, she's nominated again this year.
She's also up for album of the year.
Other female vocalist nominees include Taylor Swift, Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert and Martina McBride.
Brooks and Dunn, who hold the title of most career CMA Awards wins with 19, may increase that total by two this year with nominations for vocal duo and album of the year.
The CMA awards are Nov. 12 and will air on ABC.
