(September 23, 2008)--Wanda Jackson, who has been hailed as the “First Lady of Rock and Roll,” has been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Jackson started recording in 1954 and was 18 when she played her first package tour with Elvis Presley in 1955.
The two also dated.
She has performed with Gene Vincent, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash.
Jackson was nominated before for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but didn’t make the cut.
The nine other nominees for next year's hall of fame class include, rappers Run-D.M.C., Metallica, guitarist Jeff Beck and Little Anthony and the Imperials.
The five leading vote getters will be announced in January and inducted on April 4 in Cleveland.
To be nominated an act must have released its first single or album 25 years earlier.
More than 500 musicians, industry professionals and journalists vote on the inductions.
