(October 3, 2008)--Dolly Parton isn't shy about boasting of her Smoky Mountains heritage, and now the officials who oversee the Great Smoky Mountains National Park are boasting that she will be their ambassador, serving to help promote next year's 75th anniversary of the park.

A series of events will mark the anniversary of Congress' approval to form the park.

The Park's superintendent says Parton was an obvious choice for the position.

She grew up in the foothills of the Smokies in Tennessee and she has always been an advocate for the park.

She says she's honored to have the title on an official basis.
