(October 13, 2008)--Britney Spears says she looks back at her recent past and thinks, "I'm a smart person. Like, what the hell was I thinking?"

Spears tells her side of the story in a documentary called "Britney: For The Record," which will air on MTV.

She says so much has gone on in the last couple of years.

"There's a lot that people don't know about me that I want them to know."

She says she allowed the film because she hasn't been seen in the light that she wanted.

The documentary makers followed Spears for three months to produce the 90-minute documentary, which airs on MTV on Nov. 30.

Her new album, "Circus," comes out on Dec. 2.
