A | A | A

(October 24, 2008)--Patti LaBelle is making good on her hometown connections in Philadelphia.

The soul diva will be singing the national anthem at one of the World Series games in Philly this weekend.

She will take to the mic before Game 4.

Country star Taylor Swift will get the call to do Game 3.

The Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays are tied at one game apiece heading into this weekend's contests in the city of brotherly love.

The Phils are trying to win their second World Series title ever.

Their first and only win came in 1980.

Love Patti LaBelle... but ouch - that rendition of our National Anthem was indeed a disgrace. No excuse for not knowing the words to our country's anthem, and while I enjoy hearing a singer add their own flair, they really need to stick to the basic song when it comes to the Nat'l Anthem.

"The Phils are trying to win their second World Series title ever." This is not correct. Perhaps you might want to check the record books.

She did a terrible job

Patti LaBelle shoulda stayed away. Blew the lyrics twice (three if you count her addition of "Eeeeee, eeeeeee" to "Free", and slid off-key a couple times to boot. Add that to the current trend of singers to go with "Why sing one note when 200 will do?", and it was painful.

Patti Labelle needs to learn the words to the star spangled banner before she sings it to the fans of the world series.

Couldn't someone give Ms. LaBelle the words to the National Anthem before she sang it? What a disgrace.
