(November 10, 2008)—A new documentary about Fats Domino includes video of his last public performance.
"Fats Domino: Walkin' Back to New Orleans" airs on public broadcasting stations nationwide beginning this month.
It includes a clip from May 19, 2007 when Domino performed at a music club in New Orleans, his first time on stage after losing his home and neighborhood in Hurricane Katrina.
Fans cheered and some cried as Domino played several of his hits in a return that was seen as a symbol of hope in the city's ongoing efforts to recover from Katrina.
Domino got to see the documentary last week during an invitation-only showing.
He said, "It turned out real nice,” and said he’s grateful the documentary was made.
Before the screening, Domino was re-presented with his Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and Hall of Fame awards for "Ain't That A Shame" and "Blueberry Hill."
They original awards among the items of memorabilia that were lost or destroyed in the 2005 storm.
