Advocates Fault TV Skit About Blind Governor
Advocates for the blind are criticizing an SNL skit that portrayed New York’s blind governor as a bumbler.

(December 15, 2008)--New York Gov. David Paterson says he's not laughing after a "Saturday Night Live" skit portrayed the legally-blind leader as a bumbler.

Paterson's office says the skit ridiculed people with physical disabilities and implied that they are incapable of taking on serious responsibilities.

Paterson’s spokesman Errol Cockfield issued a statement saying Patterson "is sure that 'Saturday Night Live,' with all of its talent, can find a way to be funny without being offensive."

The skit featured SNL cast member Fred Armisen as Paterson, who must appoint someone to replace Sen. Hillary Clinton.

As part of the skit, Armisen held up a chart upside down.

National Federation of the Blind spokesman Chris Danielsen says the SNL portrayal is "absolutely wrong."

Hey, heres a shocker: Saturday Night Live = Tasteless But it done in fun. I am sick of this whole "Thats hilarious as long as they aint making fun of me" Culture. They make fun of everyone, right wing, left nut and middle of the fencers... fat, old, white, black, Asian, hispanic, rich, poor. Personally I feel sad for people who are so wrapped up in self importance that they can not laugh at themselves. Its not as if he showed up for the show and they pointed fingers and laughed at him....
