NEW YORK (February 12, 2009)-- DJ Bill Mack, WBAP radio’s legendary Midnight Cowboy, is joining Willie Nelson’s SIRIUS XM channel, “Willie’s Place.”
His show premieres on Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. CST.
Mack, who traded the moniker “Midnight Cowboy” for “Satellite Cowboy” after leaving the Fort Worth Station to join XM satellite radio, will broadcast live from his studio in Fort Worth five days a week.
He’ll also broadcast from Willie’s Place at Carl’s Corner north of Hillsboro.
Mack’s voice is familiar to truckers from coast to coast, because of his years working overnight at the high-power Fort Worth station and for the last seven years as host of a trucking show on XM’s Open Road channel.
"I'm so happy to have my old friend and radio hero Bill Mack joining us at Willie's Place,” Nelson said.
“He's a true Texas-bred radio legend and we're going to have more fun than we're supposed to. I guarantee it," he said.
Mack is a member of the Country Music DJ Hall of Fame and the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame and he won a Grammy Award in 1997 for Best Country Song for “Blue,” which LeAnn Rimes recorded as a teenager.
He started hosting the overnight trucking show on WBAP in 1969.

i have been trying to find out why willies place is no longer on directv. i have tried to talk to directv wondering if willie would know. i miss it alot & a lot of my friends do also.
Just wondering if you remembered a 15 year country bunkin'singer that thought you were "IT" I remember you introducing me to Moe Bandy and Joe Stamply and that was the best!! You were always so kind to this little country hick from Paris Texas!! You confidence in my singing ability was such a compliment! I toured with Tony Douglas here in Texas and then moved to Nashville and toured with Wally Fowler. I finally got offered a singing contract when I was 18 and believe it or not turned it down to get married and raise a family! I just sing a little karoake in the nursing homes now to see the smiles on their faces. I heard you were on the radio and just had to say Hi!!!
Absolutely love Bill Mack--Great Old-style country can't be found anywhere but there--and his views and beleifs are so great.
