AUSTIN (March 20, 2009)--Atlanta rapper Big Boi of OutKast has arrived at South by Southwest for the first time and was planning to perform new material Friday night.
The 34-year-old rapper has occasionally stopped traffic in Austin as fans jump out of their cars for handshake or a cell phone photo.
At SXSW, the nearly 2,000 music acts are everywhere.
While the many indie bands walk among the throngs, rappers are a more uncommon sight.
Big Boi, whose real name is Antwan Patton, makes no distinction among genres, though.
He says he's not in any category because he can rock with anyone.
His new album "Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty" is due this summer.
Guests on the 16 tracks include Jamie Foxx, T.I., George Clinton, Lil' Jon and OutKast partner Andre 3000.
