OKLAHOMA CITY (April 3, 2009)--Rockabilly singer Wanda Jackson says her husband kept a major secret from her: that she was being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as an early influence.

Jackson says her husband knew for a full day before he told her.

He gave her the news by having her entire family toast her as her granddaughter brought in a big bunch of pink roses.

Jackson says she's happy the Rock Hall is recognizing her work, because many female singers told her they wanted to sing rockabilly but didn't think a girl should do that until Jackson did it.

Jackson also was an influence in how female singers looked. She says they all used to dress as cowgirls, but she would wear high heels, big earrings and fringed dresses that showed cleavage.

The Rock Hall inductions are Saturday in Cleveland.
