McALLEN (April 14, 2009)--Mexican pop music diva Gloria Trevi is suing a Mexican television network and the host of one of the country's most popular entertainment television shows for defamation.
She claims they conspired to attack her.
Trevi has been making a comeback since a sex scandal put her in jail for nearly five years, although she was eventually acquitted of all charges.
The suit accuses TV Azteca and Pati Chapoy, host of popular entertainment television show "Ventaneando," of continuing to attack her.
Trevi was an international pop superstar until police arrested her, her manager and backup singer in 2000, and accused them of sexually abusing young girls they lured into their entourage.
Trevi spent almost five years in prisons in Brazil and Mexico before she was acquitted on charges of kidnapping, rape and corruption of minors.
Tuesday, in the offices of her McAllen attorney, Trevi said she thought media attacks would stop after her acquittal, but they have not.
Trevi's attorney says the lawsuit was filed in the United States because the offending programs aired here and Texas law states that defamation lawsuits should be filed where the plaintiff lives.
Trevi lives in McAllen.
