URBANA, Illinois (May 25, 2009)--A former member of Wilco who had taken the group's lead singer to court recently has died.
Jay Bennett was 45.
Reports say he died in his sleep at his home in Urbana, Ill.
No cause of death is immediately available.
Bennett played instruments for Wilco between 1994 and 2001, during which the group recorded five albums.
He also worked as a sound engineer for the group, but earlier this month, he was taking the group's lead singer Jeff Tweedy to court. Bennett claimed he was being stiffed for royalties for songs during his seven years with the band.
