NEW YORK (May 25, 2009)—The New Riders of the Purple Sage are putting out their first studio album in 20 years, and things have changed since then for the better.
Pedal steel guitarist Buddy Cage says because of digital technology, they were able to do bits of songs here and there and before they knew it, they had an album, called "Where I Come From."
They still took an old-school approach to the music.
They played together in the same room and recorded most of the songs in one or two takes.
They also do a lot of improvisation, which Cage says is a result of being children of the '60s.
He says they come from the mentality of, "Here! Try this pill. See where that takes you."
Now he says they experiment with sounds rather than pills.
"Where I Come From" is out now.
