BRANSON, Mo. (July 10, 2009)--Country music star Mickey Gilley is recovering from surgery after a fall he suffered over the Fourth of July weekend.
A representative from the Mickey Gilley Theatre said the 73-year-old entertainer fell backward off a 3-foot step in Branson Sunday and injured his back.
Gilley underwent successful surgery Tuesday but will be transferred to a medical facility in Houston for treatment.
Gilley is expected to make a full recovery, but he has cancelled his scheduled performances in Branson, and it's uncertain when he will return to the stage.
Gilley had a string of top 10 hits in the 1970s and 80s, and has performed in Branson for 20 years.
In 2008, Gilley said he had brain surgery in Springfield, Mo. to stop the onset of dementia.
