Steve Cropper Turns 68 Wednesday
Stax Records house guitarist Steve Cropper turns 68 Wednesday.

(October 21, 2009)--Steve Cropper, who was the guitarist with the Stax Records house band Booker T. and the MG's, turns 68 Wednesday.
He was born in Willow Springs, Mo.
The group was the house rhythm section at Stax Records in Memphis and the "MG" in the name stands for "Memphis Group."
The group backed up such artists as Otis Redding, Sam and Dave and Wilson Pickett.
In 1962, Booker T. and the MG's recorded the instrumental "Green Onions," which sold a million copies.
Other hits for the group included "Soul Limbo" and "Time Is Tight."
Booker T. and the MG's broke up in 1971, and Cropper began a career as a record producer and occasional solo artist.
He turned up as part of the Blues Brothers' band in the 1978 movie.
