MOUNT AIRY, NC (October 30, 2009)—Country singer Donna Fargo jokes she was "afraid three people would show up" as a highway in North Carolina was named in her honor Thursday, but instead, about 500 fans from all over were there, which had to have made her the happiest girl in the whole USA, to use the title of her 1972 hit.

The state of North Carolina dedicated about 6 miles of N.C. 103 as "Donna Fargo Highway."

North Carolina's transportation secretary said Fargo is a shining example of reaching your dreams.

Not far from "Donna Fargo Highway" is a section of U.S 52 that was named "Andy Griffith Parkway" in 2002.
