NEW YORK (November 4, 2009)--A new study confirms that the Internet and mobile phones are not linked to social isolation.
In fact, the study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project finds that online activities such as e-mail, blogging and frequenting Internet hangouts can even lead to larger and more diverse social networks.
The study refutes reports earlier in the decade suggesting that people's growing embrace of technology has come at the expense of close human connections.
In addition, the survey confirms that people use cell phones more often than landlines to keep in touch with close friends and family members.
