LOS ANGELES (November 9, 2009)—The buzz about the movie "Precious" is being backed up with bucks at the box office.

The movie opened in just 18 theaters over the weekend, but it did some major business, taking in $1.8 million, which works out to an average of $100,000 per theater.

That's also a record average for films that open in 10 or more theaters.
