WACO (November 25, 2012) - A severe stroke left Illinois resident Luther Patillo with hardly any function in the left side of his body.

In March, he didn't know where to turn when doctors and therapists told him he'd never walk the same again.

"My left arm, hand, and leg were basically paralyzed," Patillo said.

"I wasn't looking for a cure, but just some help to be able to walk around again."

A cane would be Patillo's answer to walking for the next 10 months. With hopes of getting back to normal, he began physical rehabilitation. But nothing seemed to go his way.

"I went through months and months of regular therapy, and they barely even got me walking," Patillo said.

Patillo heard of an inventive type of therapy offered in Central Texas called "Strech For Life."

"Strech For Life" was started by Phillip Koss. Koss is a motor skills specialist who developed a non-medicinal therapy for victims of Stroke, Neuropathy, Parkinson's, and Dystonia through full body stretching techniques targeting nerve repair and motor skill disabilities.

"I designed a technique to give people feeling and function," Koss said.

"If you go to a therapist, they can give you function if they work you hard enough. But if you have no feeling, all you're doing is working muscles and making no progress."

So Patillo drove more than 800 miles from Illinois to Waco seeking Koss's help.

He arrived Saturday, and within 24 hours, he says he was moving his left arm and hand. He says he is also walking up stairs on his own without a cane.

"Mr. Koss has done more for me in two 2 hour sessions than I ever had in 6 months of regular therapy," Patillo said.

With Koss's help, Patillo will walk the steps of recovery for the next 1 to 3 weeks.

They are steps that Luther will continue to take, to a new life.

"I want to progress and be better than when I got here," Patillo said.
