10.29.2012 New Emergency Alert System

Updated: Mon 5:54 PM, Oct 29, 2012

The Heart of Texas Council of Governments has just rolled out a new emergency alert system that now includes mobile customers.

In the past only land line users were on the call list.

Now, the system alerts cell phone users who live in the area about man-made events such as gas leaks, accidents, abductions, or boil orders.

Local homeland security officials say rarely will it be used for weather-related events because occurrences like tornados happen suddenly and severe conditions can quickly change.

Residents in McLennan, Limestone, Freestone, Bosque, Falls, and Hill counties can sign up by visiting www.hotready.com.

For more information call (254) 292-1800.
