WEST (March 10, 2014) Dozens of volunteers will spend spring break assisting with recovery efforts in West.

In an update Thursday, the West, TX Foundation said 100 volunteers a day will pitch in next week and about 60 volunteers a day the week after that.

The foundation also said Thursday that its unmet needs committee has approved $400,000 in funding in the past three and a half weeks and a total of $1.3 million so far.

“Our goal is to reach the $2 million mark by April 17, and $3 million by July,” the foundation said.

Waco Habitat for Humanity has approved construction of its first home in West, the foundation said.

The community continues to recover and rebuild in the aftermath of the April 17, 2013 fertilizer plant explosion that killed 15 and damaged or destroyed dozens of homes and buildings.
