BAGHDAD – Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers detained two suspected criminals and seized weapons after a recent operation in West Rashid.

MND-B forces conducted an aerial engagement in support of a combat clearing operation in Shurta where six individuals were killed.
The Air Weapons Team supported the Soldiers from 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, who were under fire in Shurta when they positively identified six men armed with AK-47 assault rifles.

The Soldiers were attacked by small-arms fire. The Soldiers returned fire, and the suspected criminals fled to a house.

“The troops were part of a deliberate operation to clear West Rashid of criminals,” said Maj. Peter Lind, Task Force Dragon’s chief of operations. “This wasn’t retaliation for anything, but a reaction to suspected criminals trying to ambush our forces.”

Two suspected criminals were wounded and taken to a Coalition forces medical treatment facility.

The Soldiers also found 10 AK-47 assault rifles, three PKC machine guns, three explosively formed penetrators and four RPGs with warheads at the scene.
