BAGHDAD – Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division detained a suspected criminal linked to a foiled explosively-formed penetrator attack, in the eastern Baghdad neighborhood of Fadailliyah May 7.

The soldiers, attached to 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, who are conducting operations in support of Iraqi Security Forces, traced a command wire from an EFP back to the criminal’s location in the New Baghdad district of Baghdad.
Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div., seized an AK-47, assorted knives, and a satchel containing $15,000 and 2,450,000 Iraqi Dinar at approximately 4:40 a.m. May 7 in the southwestern Baghdad district of Rashid.

Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, detained a suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq terrorist after positively identifying him in an operation at 12:45 a.m. May 7 in the western Baghdad neighborhood of Jamiyah.
Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Inf. Div., detained a criminal leader at 12:22 a.m. May 7 in the Taji Qada, northwest of Baghdad.

“U.S. soldiers, in full partnership with Iraqi Security Forces, are aggressively pursuing criminals and terrorists in order to kill or detain them before they commit a violent act,” said Col. Allen Batschelet, chief of staff, MND-B and the 4th Inf. Div. “By stopping and preventing attacks, we save lives. With the restoration of security, we see the Government of Iraq more able to provide essential services for the people – and that’s the goal.”
