BELTON (April 6, 2009)—Golden Apple Award winner Karen Menzie has become a fixture at the Belton ISD's Lakewood Elementary.

Nominated by her principal, Karen is described as an energetic and engaging teacher who has a true passion for science.

Karen as spent nearly two decades in the classroom and described her job as a dream come true.

Karen and her husband watch the Golden Apple Award each week on Channel 10.

She says she never imagined that she would one day be the recipient, and credits her fellow Lakewood teachers, her students and their parents, along with Belton administration with making her a success in her work
