TROY (September 8, 2009)--Golden Apple Award winner Carol Wurster says her struggle with math in college led her to want to help kids who struggle with math, too.

Carol has been teaching for 23 years, fourteen of those at Troy High School.

Carol wanted to be a therapist or teach math.

Luckily for her students she chose the latter.

She credits God with helping her get through the tough math classes.

Carol is married and has three children attending schools in Troy.

I graduated from Troy High in '05. I've always had trouble in ONE subject: math. Mrs. Wurster made the subject less frightening and even kind of fun. She refused to give up me or any other student, and went out of her way to make herself available to students who needed extra help both before and after school. Truly a one-in-a-million teacher.
