WASHINGTON (August 26, 2010)—The U.S. Food and Drug Administration Thursday warned consumers not to take TimeOut capsules, a sexual enhancement product, because they contain an ingredient that can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure.

“TimeOut is labeled as “100% natural” and consumers may mistakenly assume the product is harmless and poses no health risk,” the FDA said in a press release Thursday.

The product is marketed and sold online.

The FDA says consumers who have purchased the capsules should stop using them immediately.

TimeOut capsules contain hydroxythiohomosildenafil, a chemical similar to sildenafil, which is the active ingredient in Viagra, the FDA said, and like sildenafil, the chemical may interact with such prescription drugs as nitrates, including nitroglycerin, and cause dangerously low blood pressure.

“Sexual enhancement products that claim to work as well as prescription products are likely to expose consumers to unpredictable risks and the potential for injury or death, “ the FDA said.
