SAN ANTONIO (February 24, 2010)--A new study finds a link between the amount of fat that women over 50 consume and their chances of suffering the most common type of stroke.

Researchers say that women who eat higher amounts of fat have a 44 percent greater risk of stroke than women who eat less fat.

Especially bad are trans fats, which are found in cookies, crackers, stick margarine and fried foods.

The findings were reported Wednesday at an American Stroke Association conference in San Antonio.

Doctors recommend using healthier fats, which come from nuts, fish and vegetable oils.
