AUSTIN (May 2, 2009)--Electronic textbooks may soon replace traditional books in Texas classrooms.
The Texas House gave preliminary approval Saturday to a measure that would make electronic textbooks part of the approved list of instructional materials schools can choose from, which means qualified information could be downloaded to laptops or a Kindle electronic reader if schools choose to use the technology.
"Traditional textbooks are a vehicle to deliver content," said Rep. Dan Branch, R-Dallas, who sponsored the measure.
"But for many students that vehicle is quickly becoming a horse and buggy."

What you don't understand is that the CONTENT of a textbook is what costs money to produce. The cost of producing quality educational material is NOT in the printing. Do you think Kindles and laptop computers are free?
I see nothing wrong with allowing our students to integrate the 21st Century technology that most of the World is operating on now! Not only will this help students prepare for the future but it is possible to help the environment and the tax payers dollar by not having to purchase expensive textbooks due to neglect. A kindle is much more light weight and easier to transport than that of the average textbook.
