HILLSBORO (October 28, 2009)—A 10-year-old boy who was attacked by a stray dog Tuesday evening near Itasca was in a Fort Worth hospital Wednesday, the Hill County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office said a large white dog, believed to be a German shepherd, attacked the boy at around 5:10 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Hill County Road 4421 near the intersection with FM 67.

Neighbors told investigators the dog had been wandering around the neighborhood in recent days.

Authorities said the boy suffered injuries to his head, face, eye and forearm in the attack.

He was driven initially to a Dairy Queen in Itasca, before being taken to Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth.

Investigators say a neighbor shot the dog, tissue from which will be tested for rabies.

No, it is true that all Pits are not mean. I bought one after a divorce. She was six weeks old, slept in the bed with me, went everywhere with my two children and me....part of the family. UNTIL......one day I was in the tractor barn, bending over digging in a box for a tool. The hair on the back of my neck stood up for some reason..... As I was bent over, I looked under my arm, and there stood sweet Rosalie.......snarling, saliva dripping from her fangs, as she readied an attack. This "gentle" dog had NEVER done anything like this before. I yelled her name....and then again. It was like she came back from some place so far away.....shaking her head, "smiling" at me, licking my leg. I gave her away that afternoon. She had just turned two. I know this article wasn't about Pits. BUT....strange things happen. And I HATE to see young children or babies around them. It's too bad that "a few bad apples" spoil the barrel....but, you wouldn't leave an open bottle of poison around.
