Domestic Dispute Involving Texas Jailers Leaves One Dead

BROWNSVILLE (June 5, 2014) A woman escaped unharmed during a nine-hour standoff at her home in Brownsville that with one man dead and a second man injured.

Police identified the dead man as the woman’s boyfriend and the wounded man as the woman’s ex-boyfriend.

All three worked for the Cameron County Jail system, police said.

The two men were jailers and the woman a nurse, Detective J.J. Trevino said Thursday.

Officers fired tear gas into the house to end the standoff.

Inside they found Ivan Reyes, 31, dead and Marco Antonio Gonzalez, 31, with a self-inflicted wound in the midsection.

Gonzalez was taken to a hospital where he was in critical but stable condition Thursday.

He will face a number of charges, police said.

Investigators think Gonzalez shot Reyes, Brownsville police Chief Orlando Rodriguez said.
