HOUSTON (November 11, 2012)—Garrett Luce, 19, the Texas A&M student who was struck and killed by a train, was laid to rest Saturday morning in Houston.

Luce, 19, died when the train hit him early in the morning on Nov. 4 near University Drive and Wellborn Road in College Station.

Police say the A&M sophomore was alone at the time of the accident.

Luce was pledging the Kappa Alpha fraternity this year and was with his friends at the Northgate District hours before the accident.

Union Pacific Railroad representatives say the train engineer saw something on the tracks when the train was about a quarter of a mile away.

Union Pacific said the train’s crew tried to brake, but it was too late.

Luce's body was sent to Travis County for autopsy, but it will take weeks to determine if alcohol was involved, police said.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is conducting its own investigation.
