FORT WORTH (November 4, 2012)—Danny Kirk, 53, the Fort Worth-area pastor who was beaten to death by an electric-guitar-wielding assailant, was remembered at his funeral as a man who never allowed an argument to linger.
Friends and family filled the pews at the Great Commission Missionary Baptist Church Saturday to celebrate Kirk’s life.
Kirk, the brother of longtime Falls County Sheriff Ben Kirk, the pastor at the Greater Sweethome Missionary Baptist Church in Forest Hill, died Monday when an assailant beat him with an electric guitar after ramming a car into a church wall.
The assailant, Derrick Anthony Birdow, 33, died after police subdued him with a Taser.
Kirk's teenaged son, Danny Kirk Jr., told mourners Saturday his father made sure family members forgave, loved and cherished each other.
On Friday, hundreds waited in line to attend the pastor's wake.
