FAIRFIELD (August 5, 2010)-A Teague man has been released from custody after posting a $50,000 bond on a murder charge.
Eavan DeVillier was charged with the Tuesday murder of Dagoberto Castro, 26, of Mexia.
Freestone County District Attorney Chris Martin told News 10 the shooting happened around midnight August 4 at a residence located at 137 Farm-to-Market Road 1365 near Teague.
Freestone County Sheriff Ralph Billings confirmed deputies responded at 11:21 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a disturbance. While deputies were en route, a second report indicated that shots had been fired.
When deputies arrived on the scene they found Castro lying on the ground with gunshot wounds, Billings said.
Castro was taken by ambulance from the residence to a helipad in Teague but was not stable, Martin said. The ambulance took Castro instead to a ETMC-Fairfield where he was later pronounced dead by Freestone County Justice of the Peace Theresa Farris.
His body was sent to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences, at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, for an autopsy.
Martin would not comment on the placement of the gunshot wounds but he did say the victim was shot multiple time by a pistol.
The shooting apparently stemmed from an altercation between several people on the scene, Billings said.
Martin said the victim and the suspect were not acquainted but both were at a gathering at the residence, which is said to be DeVillier's home.
Freestone County deputies and investigators, a Texas Ranger and the Department of Public Safety portable crime lab converged on the scene for the investigation.
Castro was a graduate of Mexia High School.
