TEMPLE (August 23, 2010)—Anthony Wayne O’Neal, 40, who was the focus of a search in two states after a deadly early-morning shooting in Temple and a burglary and sexual assault in Lorena about an hour later, was traced to Louisiana Monday.

The stolen 1999 Chrysler minivan he was believed to be driving was found abandoned at around 4 a.m. Monday in Rayne, La., off Interstate 10 west of Lafayette.

Authorities were looking into possible family connections in that area Monday evening.

Temple officers responded to the shooting at around 12:20 A.M. Sunday at the Westgate Park apartments at 3007 Antelope Trail where they found Paul Michael Caldera, 24, dead of a gunshot wound.

Police said it appears Caldera was shot with a handgun during an argument and that his killer took his keys and stole his 2000 gold Cadillac sedan.

An hour later in, a man matching the description of the suspect in the shooting and a car matching the description of the stolen vehicle were linked to a burglary and sexual assault in Lorena where a man broke into a house occupied by a woman and three children ranging in age from 5 to 18.

The man tied up the two oldest children, sexually assaulted the woman, and then fled; leaving the stolen Cadillac behind and taking the woman’s white Chrysler minivan, authorities said.

O’Neal has a thin build, dreadlocks and was wearing a green or blue-green and white shirt and jeans.

He’s armed with a handgun and should be considered extremely dangerous, police said.

“No citizen should attempt to approach this suspect or the stolen vehicle under any circumstances,” police said.
