ORLANDO, Fla. (August 24, 2010)—The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is fining SeaWorld Orlando $75,000 over the February death of a trainer who was drowned by a killer whale.
OSHA says SeaWorld’s most serious violation was "willful" because the whale had "known aggressive tendencies."
SeaWorld Orlando trainer Dawn Brancheau died of drowning and blunt-force trauma to her head, neck and torso in the whale attack.
The killer whale named Tilikum snatched the 40-year-old trainer from a poolside platform in its jaws and thrashed her around underwater, killing her while horrified SeaWorld visitors watched.
It was the third time the whale had been involved in a death.

The fine from OSHA should have been much higher. Anhauser-Busch gave little, if any forethought or consideration to the fact that the whale was already responsible for two other deaths. The whale should have been set free in the ocean the first time he was aggressive toward trainers. They (SeaWorld) kept him him only to bring in big bucks. He had already sired 13 calves plus the money he was bringing in for the park. The sad truth is, that the whales at SeaWorld are kept in a vary small space when they are not entertaining the crowds.
So Larry, you want the "government' involved in your workplace daily? Look how good of a job they do in their own workplace!
Oh I see she had no idea the whale was violent.
