TEMPLE (September 2, 2010)--Anthony Wayne O’Neal, 40, who was the focus of a search in three states after a deadly early-morning shooting last month in Temple and a burglary and sexual assault in Lorena about an hour later, was arrested Thursday in Louisiana.

Authorities in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi had been looking for O’Neal.

The FBI’s New Orleans Violent Crime Task Force and an FBI SWAT Team arrested him without incident at around 11:20 a.m. Thursday.

“We are thankful for the professional assistance and dedicated effort of our local, state, and federal law enforcement,” said Temple Police Chief Gary Smith.

Temple officers responded to the shooting at around 12:20 A.M. on Aug. 22 at the Westgate Park apartments at 3007 Antelope Trail where they found Paul Michael Caldera, 24, dead of a gunshot wound.

Police said it appears Caldera was shot with a handgun during an argument and that his killer took his keys and stole his 2000 gold Cadillac sedan.

An hour later in, a man matching the description of the suspect in the shooting and a car matching the description of the stolen vehicle were linked to a burglary and sexual assault in Lorena where a man broke into a house occupied by a woman and three children ranging in age from 5 to 18.

The man tied up the two oldest children, sexually assaulted the woman, and then fled; leaving the stolen Cadillac behind and taking the woman’s white Chrysler minivan, authorities said.

Lorena Police Chief Tom Dickson said Thursday the aggravated sexual assault and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle case against O'Neal will be forwarded to McLennan County prosecutors.

“This case involved many agencies working together and the result is a dangerous individual has been taken off the streets" Dickson said.
