Dead Toddler Identified; Cause Of Death Under Investigation
Authorities Thursday released the name of a toddler who died at a local hospital earlier this week, but a ruling about how the 2-year-old died is still pending.

(October 4, 2007)—The Army is investigating the death of a 2-year-old child who died Tuesday at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center.

The toddler was identified Thursday as Deion Swinton.

The cause and manner of death still are listed as pending, according to a preliminary autopsy report.

The child was taken Tuesday from 52519-1 Accouma Loop on Fort Hood to Darnall where Bell County Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced him dead at 6:40 p.m.

Cooke ordered an autopsy and received the preliminary report on Thursday.

Army officials confirmed an investigation was being conducted would not elaborate on reports of the death and referred all requests for information to the Department of the Army.

Chris Grey, director of public affairs for the U.S. Army Criminal Investigations Command in Washington, D.C. confirmed that the toddler died Tuesday but would not comment further.
