Central Texas Country Music Legend Honored Monday
It’s Hank Thompson Day both in Waco and in Texas as the legendary country music veteran returns to his hometown to perform.

(October 8, 2007)—By mayoral and gubernatorial proclamation, Monday is Hank Thompson Day in Waco and in Texas.
The legendary country music veteran returns to his hometown Monday to perform at the Heart of Texas Fair.
Thompson appears at 5:30 p.m. Monday on the Bud True Music Stage.
The fairground gates open at 2 p.m.
Regular admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 3-12, but children 18 and under with school coupons will be admitted free Monday and fairgoers 55 and older will be admitted for $4.

Thompson got his start in Waco, where as a youngster he won several amateur harmonica competitions, before his parents bought him a $4 secondhand guitar.
By the time he finished high school, he was a regular on WACO radio.
He went on to enlist in the Navy and studied electrical engineering at Southern Methodist University, the University of Texas and Princeton University before leaving the service and launching what would become a stellar music career.
Between 1948 and 1974, he produced 29 top ten hits and continued to chart into the 1980s.
His first number one record was 1952’s “The Wild Side of Life.”
He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame of 1989, and he’s still performing around the world.
