The Texas Department of Transportation is re-evaluating its policy on medians after the fiery accident that claimed the lives of ten people Monday near Sherman.
Five members of a McKinney family and five other people, believed to be Mexican nationals, died when an 18-wheeler crossed the median on U.S. Highway 75 and slammed into two oncoming vehicles.
The trucker is charged with ten counts of criminally negligent
homicide.
TXDOT engineer Kevin Harris told the Dallas Morning News that
the agency is about safety.
State guidelines calls for barriers for highways with medians 30 feet wide or less.
The median along Highway 75 in Sherman, with paved shoulders,
stretches 43 to 45 feet.
