DALLAS (October 4, 2010)—Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, who faces the toughest challenge in his congressional career from retired energy executive Bill Flores of Bryan, told the Dallas Morning News Editorial Board Monday that his vote in favor of the massive stimulus package “may cost me an election,” but said supporting the measure was the right thing to do.
The paper reports that Edwards admitted Monday he’s trailing in the race for an 11th term in Congress and said he relishes being the underdog.
Edwards told the newspaper that the stimulus plan and the financial industry bailout in 2008 were both essential to preventing an economic collapse, but admitted his support of the two measures could cost him votes.
Flores was also scheduled to appear before the newspaper’s editorial board, but canceled because he said he had a medical appointment, The Morning News reported.
