(October 11, 2007)--Deliberations resume Thursday after a judge declined to grant a mistrial in the case against a fired Texas Southern University president.
Priscilla Slade is on trial in Houston, accused of misspending school funds to lavishly decorate her homes.
Defense attorney Mike DeGeurin asked the court Wednesday for a mistrial after jurors indicated in a note that they were deadlocked 8-4.
Judge Brock Thomas responded to the note, which didn't say if the jury was in favor of conviction or acquittal, by telling jurors to continue their work.
Slade was president of the state's largest historically black university for more than six years.
She's charged with misapplication of fiduciary property with a value over $200,000.
If convicted, Slade faces up to life in prison.
