Texas Candidate Targets Rather In Campaign Spot

Republican Louie Gohmert takes a potshot at beleaguered CBS anchorman Dan Rather in a new campaign spot challenging Democratic Congressman Max Sandlin.

The spot makes references to Sandlin's "negative" ads.

"They've got more holes than a CBS News story by Dan Rather," the narrator says in the spot.

The ad then shows a newspaper clipping with Rather's photo and
the headline "CBS apologizes for Bush Guard story."

The anchorman apologized Monday for relying on questionable
documents to support a 60 Minutes story.

CBS declined comment on the ad Friday.

Sandlin spokesman Jim Dow says ad is a juvenile and invalid
comparison that folks don't really care about anyway.

Dow says voters in East Texas care about jobs, health care and
integrity not Dan Rather.

Rather happens to be an East Texan, himself, however.

He was born in Wharton, received a bachelors degree in journalism from what was then Sam Houston State Teacher’s College in Huntsville, where he began his career in 1950 as an Associated Press reporter.
