(October 12, 2007)-- A mistrial was declared Friday in the Houston case of a former Texas Southern University president accused of misspending school funds.
Jurors had reported three times being deadlocked in the trial of Priscilla Slade.
Slade spent more than six years as president of the state's largest historically black university before she was fired last year.
Slade was facing a charge of misapplication of fiduciary property with a value over $200,000.
Prosecutors said Slade misspent more than $500,000 in TSU funds on extravagant purchases for her homes and on entertainment and personal items.
But the defense said Slade spent the money to improve TSU's image and to court donors.
The jury was made up of six men and six women.
Three jurors are black.
