State School Staffer Kicked In The Head; Residents Won't Be Disciplined

MEXIA (October 18, 2010)—Two mentally impaired male residents of the Mexia State Supported Living Center face a meeting between their families and staff members, but no disciplinary action, after a female staffer was kicked in the head while trying to break up a fight over the weekend.

The meeting will determine whether the two residents need additional resources or care, Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services spokeswoman Allison Lowrey said Monday.

The woman was flown by helicopter to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center Saturday afternoon after she was injured.

She was treated and was later released.

Lowrey said the staff member was trying to break up a fight Saturday afternoon between a 30-year-old man and a 21-year-old man when she was injured.

The two residents live in the same unit of homes on the Mexia campus.

They began fighting in the yard for an unknown reason at around 1:10 p.m. Saturday.
