(October 29, 2007)--A college student in New Jersey is dead after being beaten in a campus robbery on homecoming weekend.
Nineteen-year-old Donald Ferrell was walking with friends on the campus of Rowan University in Glassboro Saturday night when some men approached, asking for directions.
As Ferrell began talking to the men, at least two of them attacked, taking his cell phone and wallet before fleeing.
Authorities say Ferrell was punched and likely kicked, suffering injuries to the head and stomach.
He died Sunday morning, just hours after the attack.
Police say Ferrell's friends had no time to react to the incident because the attack only took seconds.
Counseling was available Monday to students and staff.
Rowan President Donald Farish issued a statement posted on the school’s Web site in which he said, “Tragedies like this shatter our sense of security. In the coming days we will learn more about the situation and, we hope, apprehend the assailants. I encourage everyone to continue to be vigilant about safety.”
