Debris Damages Brazos River Dam

Debris from the runoff from the rain earlier this week has damaged some of the hydraulic gates on Waco’s low water dam on the Brazos River.

The dam forms Lake Brazos in downtown Waco.

Water flow in the river is as much as 100 times normal, the city said.

The damage can’t be assessed until the level of the river drops, the city said.

The Waco City Council authorized construction of a new low water dam in 2002.

Plans should be complete by March and construction could be completed by August 2006.
