(November 6, 2007)--A Central Texas boy who was seriously hurt in a pit bull attack Tuesday evening at his grandmother's house later died, authorities said.

Killeen police say it happened at 2907 Fairlane where the injured boy and his 9-year-old brother were running through the house and yelling when the family's pit bull jumped from the couch and knocked the boy to the ground, biting him in the neck.

The grandmother was able to pull the dog off the boy, police said.

The youngster was taken to Carl Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, where he died about two hours after the attack.

Scanner traffic indicated paramedics were performing CPR on the boy en route to the hospital.

The dog has been quarantined

I lost my daughter on Noveber 5th this year, one day before your tradegy...with the exact same thing that happened with a dog attack, we know how you feel. I hope that God can comfort you as he is doing with us.

I am so tired of hearing how gentle everyones pit bull dog is. Also how it's the owners fault put them to sleep. A full blooded animal is more likely to go unstable due to the shallow gene pool. Also a pit bull dog is bred for it's meanness. Don't you think the grandmother is going through enough without people saying she should be put to sleep. I agree that all pit bulls should be put down or have a law in place where one is required to have a license and insurance to own one. Also be required to have a license to breed them otherwise have them neutered/spade.

May God give you strenght at the very tragic time. My prayers are with the family and little friends of Seth's

I am in Ft Carson CO right now and I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the parents of Seth. My son called me crying and it was hard for me to hear this. I don't believe in harming animals in any way but, this is different. Whether this dog was protecting the smaller child or not...who cares!!! This is a house pet, a domestic animal (or so we think). Pets are not allowed to attack ANY human. They are supposed to be "mans best friend" remember that?? This dog needs to be put down! I have no sympathy. If that were my child, there wouldnt be a dog left to quarantine

Wtf is wrong with people allowing VICIOUS dogs to run and play around the house with kids?

Posted by: harry Location: bryan on Nov 7, 2007 at 06:49 PM
It is sad that this young boy died. But it is quit possibly that the dog was protecting the younger boy. I have seen dachshunds be aggressive when "their" children were involved and appeared to be on the lousing end.

Regardless of the breed, the dog should be euthenized. He now has had the taste of blood. Who will be next for that dog.

Posted by: Sarah Location: Temple, Tx on Nov 7, 2007 at 03:37 PM
I would like to start by saying that I am so sorry that this has happened to a child. I have a pit bull that is full blood. Most of the dogs that I see on TV that are involved in these attacks are not full blood. They are a mixed breed. All dogs are capable of biting someone if they are treated badly. I guess that I must be delusional bc I do think that my dog is very sweet. I do not think that this dog deserves only the bad things to be reported on, what about the good things that they have been known to do?

Posted by: SB Location: Moody on Nov 7, 2007 at 03:20 PM
I have witnessed both good and bad Pits. I agree it is the owner's responsibility to control these dogs. Outlawing Pits will only serve to gow the black market for Pits. I recommend we pass and INFORCE stronger laws against training Pits to fight. Put the real offender (the owner) to sleep......

I want to start by saying its tragic to hear that this little boys life was taken... And my prayers are with the family... I feel like most of the time the pit bull breed is blamed for things like this it is not a full blooded pit bull most pit bulls you see that attack humans are not the big head muscular cropped eared dogs pit bull lovers come to know they are most always a ran down mix breed that is assumed to be a pit bull there for giving them a vicious title these dogs are like any other dog the way they are brought up and handled by the owner make the animal I’m sure I could chain a lab or golden r up and beat it and not treat it with the respect and love it deserves and the reaction of that animal would be to act as an animal these dogs know no wrong or right I think most of the time the dog is not to blame the owner of the animal is...

I feel for the family.

This could by any one of you or anyone of your animals. It's not just pit bulls. I think this family has already suffered enough. God Bless them all

Michelle what is your point?

Posted by: Tonya Location: Belton on Nov 7, 2007 at 10:24 AM
American Temperament Test Society: Temperament test results for several bully breeds and the Rottweiler were as follows: American Pit Bull Terrier: 83.4% American Staffordshire Terrier: 83.3% Staffordshire (Bull) Terrier: 93.2% Rottweiler: 82.3% For comparison purposes, let’s take a look at other breeds of dog thought to be more even-tempered: Golden Retriever: 83.6% Labrador Retriever: 91.1% Pomeranian: 75% Chihuahua: 70.6% According to these temperament test results, a person is more likely to be bitten by a Chihuahua or a Pomeranian than an American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, or Rottweiler. Also notice that bully breeds and Rottweilers are comparable in temperament to Golden and Labrador Retrievers which are thought to be more even-tempered, though recently the first successful face transplant was performed on a woman who had been mauled by a Labrador. All I ask, be fair and do your research.

Any death of a child breaks my heart, however, if this dog had been another breed would everyone be so outraged. My motto USED to be "the only good pit, is a dead pit". That is until I was fortunate to be around several pits that are amazing animals. The grandmother should be faulted for this, not the dog.

Posted by: Frank Location: Kempner on Nov 7, 2007 at 09:12 AM
Dangerous dog breeds should be banned. Why do our politicians tolerate this? How many more innocent people will be viciously killed? People who have these dogs should be held accountable by law. Its not just pit bulls that are a danger.

Posted by: Mike Location: Killeen on Nov 7, 2007 at 09:04 AM
When are we going to wake up! Pit Bulls are bred to kill. It's in their blood! Oh and by the way the headlines were wrong. It referred to the dog as a "pet". Wouldn't that be like having a "pet Mamba? It's just a matter of time until It bites someone. And why Quarantined? Are they going to question the dog and hope some bleeding heart animal rights group gets involved and excuses the dog because of it's improper upbringing? What a joke....

Posted by: na Location: belton on Nov 7, 2007 at 08:59 AM
I think they should make that breed illegal to have in Texas.

Posted by: Tiffaney Location: Killeen on Nov 7, 2007 at 08:41 AM
The comment that Michelle left at the bottom of the page about proof reading maybe she should read her own comment because she has information spelled wrong.

Posted by: Roy Location: Copperas Cove on Nov 7, 2007 at 08:39 AM
This breed was deliberately created by man to be a vicious, fighting, SPORT animal. The "sport" being dog fights in a pit thus the name PIT BULL. Anyone who thinks a member of this breed is gentle is delusional. The parents and or/grandparents of the now DEAD boy should be put on trial for child endangerment and manslaughter. Anyone who owns a pit bull is putting other people who come into even casual contact with the animal in danger of the same senseless type of attack. I wonder how many people have died from pit bull attacks just in Central Texas over the last few years? Just one is too many. May light eternal shine upon that innocent child.

The owners should be put to sleep

Did Michelle from Belton not take her own advice? Information is misspelled in your comments.

Posted by: GB Location: killeen on Nov 7, 2007 at 06:50 AM
The USA needs to ban all breeds of bit bulls all these dog are a status for some people. "Like WOW I have a pit bull I am bad dont mess with me attitude" And alot the peeps who have these type of dog don't have a clue on how to take care of the breed. lets not let this terror keep on.

Posted by: Chris Location: Nolanville on Nov 6, 2007 at 11:22 PM
I agree, KILL THEM ALL!!!!!!

Posted by: Jack on Nov 6, 2007 at 11:02 PM
"The dog has been quarantined" What a joke..Why didn't they kill the dog and lock the grandmother up...She's just as responsible for the bite as the dog was.

Posted by: Ray Location: Killeen on Nov 6, 2007 at 10:23 PM
How may more senseless deaths will there be until the Pit Bull breed is deemed illegal to own. This breed has caused to many deaths and most familys always have the comment "oh, he never did that before" or "he's always been a gentle dog." This breed is and has been proven to be completely mentally unstable. Get this nonsense out of the American homes and away from our INNICENT kids.

kill all pitbulls

"A Central Texas boy was seriously in a pit bull attack Tuesday evening at his grandmother's house". Is there any other "type" of dog attack that isn't serious? Shouldn't there have been the word "injured" right behind the word "seriously"? Does no one proof read anything? For your inforamtion, I read your page every day. I will continue to do so. However, I am constantly finding errors in stories. No, I am not an English teacher.
